Overview

i3 is looking for a seasoned, top-notch Senior Graphic Designer to help build software for its Virtual Training, Simulation, and Gaming portfolio. As a Senior Graphic designer, you will be responsible for overseeing and accomplishing user experience and gameplay UI design aspects for a variety of interactive, game-based products in the Unity game engine, as well as craft and produce a variety of multimedia in support of these products and their brands. You will work with a highly skilled and motivated delivery team of Software Engineers, 3D artists, and Tech Leads to imagine, test, build, and deploy these valuable, multi-platform, customer-facing products.

Responsibilities

Our ideal candidate is responsible for guiding the entirety of UI/UX design processes through to completion for these interactive, game-based products, and has the experience to present and explain their designs to a variety of stakeholders, pivoting and iterating as feedback comes in. They are responsible for the accurate implementation of their designs into the Unity game engine, as well, and work closely with the Software Engineers to ensure this.

 

Alongside the design of gameplay UI elements and the user experience around them, the Senior Graphic Designer may also be responsible for the creation of a variety of multimedia that supports these projects in cool ways, such as poster art, re-skinning web applications, photo touchup, and more. This role sits at the crossroads of practical design and artistic expression. The Senior Graphic Designer will ensure the balance between both, providing key art and direction.

 

Our ideal candidate will workshop their efforts with the Creative Director and Creative Services team weekly to ensure the design and implementation of UI/UX is cohesive.

 

Our ideal candidate also has a portfolio that demonstrates the core competencies of a seasoned, top-notch designer. In fact, it is required that you submit an online portfolio and/or website of your work with your application.

 

While the best portfolios typically display a proficiency in web design and mobile apps, other efforts in motion graphics, branding and logomark design, high-profile print design, marketing projects with whiz-bang design efforts, collaborations with other folks, and video work all won’t hurt. We also recommend case studies and galleries with lots of pretty pictures. Impress us. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with software engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Illustrate design ideas using wireframes, process flows, and sitemaps.
  • Successfully apply wireframes, process flows, and sitemaps to create prototypes, mockups, final compositions, and other multimedia to show and demonstrate UI/UX.
  • Prepare and help direct software engineers on the implementation of finalized UI/UX into the Unity game engine.
  • Provide feedback to developers as UI/UX is implemented to ensure the experience is cohesive and accurate. 
  • Regularly workshop UI/UX with the Creative Director and the Creative Services team to maintain a cohesive design and user experience of these interactive, game-based products, providing expertise and mentorship to other designers along the way in these workshops.
  • Drive key art, feature design, and various multimedia efforts as a stakeholder in the success of their adoption, usage, and user-base growth.
  • Lead and motivate fellow designers to grow in their talents.
  • Leverage design thinking and questioning techniques to develop strategies where pathways are not always clear.

Qualifications

Required experience, skills, and traits:

  • BA/BFA Degree plus at least eight (8) years experience, or equivalent professional experience of at least twelve (12) years professional experience in graphic design (such as web, mobile, motion graphics, branding and logo design, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge and skill in design tools, for example, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects, and/or other Adobe Creative Suite products, as well as optional (but not required; see Preferred below) prototyping tool like Sketch, Figma, Balsamic, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across audiences at various levels of understanding.
  • Attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple design requests in a timely fashion.
  • Knowledgeable in creating wireframes, visual mockups, low and high-fidelity design prototypes.
  • Ability to work with other designers and developers to implement new ideas.

Preferred experience, skills, and traits:

  • Working knowledge and/or understanding of prototyping tools like Sketch, Figma, Balsamic, etc.
  • Experience outside UI/UX that demonstrates a variability of design skills.
  • Camera skills
  • Understanding and appreciation of standard user interface design concepts.
  • Previous experience with human-centered design principles and practices, typography and color, and multi-device usability standards.
  • Contributions as a leader in design, and a strong collaborator across product managers and engineers.
