Simulation Flight Modeling Engineer

i3 is seeking a Simulation Flight Modeling Engineer to develop aircraft flight simulation models.  Preferred candidates will have a strong understanding in JSBSim or other flight dynamics model development.  Models will be integrated with a cutting-edge training and simulation solution for the MQ-1C Gray Eagle Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) and provide enough fidelity to achieve model accreditation through operational system testing.

This position is located at our Huntsville office with the option of hybrid work.

• Candidate will develop simulation flight models (system and subsystems) primarily related to fixed-wing aerospace capabilities with the option to extend domains to aircraft subcomponents such as weapon flyouts, antenna RF pattern modeling, or turret movement accuracies.
• Candidate will review technical data material that describes aircraft currently in development with limited access to flight data.  Candidate is expected to generate a best match flight model based on available data.
• Routine collaboration with team members in developing system capabilities.
• The candidate will be familiar with good configuration management practices and will be responsible for proper product maintenance and configuration management.
• Willingness to travel, as required

Required Experience

• Have a Bachelor’s degree (or advanced degree) from an accredited college (ABET preferred) in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or the hard sciences, with 6 or more years of professional experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
• Have experience with an Agile software development methodology and associated tools.
• Have experience with a configuration management software tool.
• Security Clearance: Candidate must have the ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Experience

• Experience developing 6DOF aircraft simulation models
• Experience working with or developing a JSBSim flight model
• Familiarity with UAS CONOPS and model accreditation
• Familiarity with C++ or C#
