Overview

i3 is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support a unique and complex US Government production/engineering effort located in Huntsville, Alabama. This role is focused on electrical test, troubleshooting, and documentation, with the opportunity to expand into system design and system development. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives in a fast pace modular environment, and is eager to grow into a design-focused role. The candidate can expect up to 10% travel.

 

This position is contingent upon contract award, estimated October 2025 timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test procedures, verification plans, and acceptance criteria to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Participate in design package reviews, providing input on schematics, PCB layouts, and component selections.
  • Document test results through clear, detailed technical reports and contribute to design reviews with data-driven feedback.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues including wiring faults, power distribution problems, and signal integrity concerns.
  • Support system integration activities, assisting senior engineers with prototype builds and functional verification.
  • Create and maintain lab work instructions, wiring diagrams, and build notes to support repeatable testing and assembly.
  • Operate and maintain lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power supplies, multimeters, and signal generators.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to provide feedback for design-for-testability (DFT) and manufacturability.
  • Conduct electrical testing and validation of digital, analog, RF, and mixed-signal systems using standard lab equipment.
  • Contribute to process improvements including lab workflow optimization, calibration schedules, and safety protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 2–7 years of experience in electrical test, integration, or lab engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, power supplies, signal generators, continuity testers).
  • Ability to develop, execute, and document test procedures with attention to detail and repeatability.
  • Proficiency in Python, C, or C++ for test automation, scripting, or data analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of circuit fundamentals, wiring, connectors, and power distribution systems.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a structured approach to problem solving.
  • U.S. Citizenship. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

 

Desired:

  • Experience with ECAD tools (Altium, OrCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN).
  • Exposure to PCB design reviews, embedded firmware debugging, or signal analysis.
  • Knowledge of mil-spec components, cabling standards, and DoD test environments.
  • Experience with configuration management or PLM tools for design and test artifacts.
  • Familiarity with RF systems, EMI/EMC testing, and digital signal processing (DSP).

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular i3 hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
