Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Windows System Administrator to join our highly motivated, driven, and eager-to-learn team committed to continuous improvement and delivering exceptional results. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of Windows Server and workstation environments, a willingness to learn, and a strong interest in system administration best practices, security compliance, and IT infrastructure support.

 

This role involves working under the guidance of senior administrators to manage, monitor, and support Windows-based systems and assist with tasks related to system maintenance, patching, virtualization, and compliance requirements such as RMF (Risk Management Framework) and STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration and maintenance of Windows Server and workstation environments.
  • Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management.
  • Perform user and group account administration tasks in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Support patch management processes for servers and workstations using enterprise tools.
  • Assist with the deployment and maintenance of virtualization technologies.
  • Contribute to storage provisioning, usage monitoring, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Support basic network troubleshooting and configuration tasks (IP addressing, routing, subnets, etc.)
  • Ensure system and network compliance with RMF controls.
  • Apply and assist in maintaining DISA STIGs on relevant systems.
  • Participate in routine security scans, vulnerability mitigation, and compliance reporting.
  • Document standard operating procedures, configurations, and system changes.
  • Provide Tier 1-2 support for escalated helpdesk issues.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to implement system upgrades and new technologies.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a Windows system administration or IT support role.
  • Foundational knowledge of Windows Server and workstation administration.
  • Basic understanding of virtualization concepts (e.g., virtual machines, snapshots, resource allocation).
  • Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN/NAS), file shares, and permissions.
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts (IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VLANs).
  • Experience with patching tools (e.g., WSUS, PDQ, or third-party solutions).
  • Exposure to RMF, NIST 800-53, or other federal cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Understanding of STIGs and security hardening procedures.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearance (if required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CompTIA certifications (e.g., Security+, Network+, Server+)
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA, Azure Fundamentals, MS-900)
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for administrative automation.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and ITIL processes.
  • Prior experience in a DoD or government IT environment.
