Mid-Level Systems Engineer

i3 is seeking a Mid Level Systems Engineer to support the U.S. Army DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center (AvMC) Air/Ground Integration and Interoperability Lab (AGIIL) in Huntsville, AL. AGIIL is a fast-paced, rapid prototyping and systems integration laboratory supporting a diverse range of Department of War customers and mission areas. The selected candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams to translate operational and customer needs into technical requirements and practical hardware and software engineering solutions. You will apply a comprehensive understanding of Systems Engineering principles to identify and derive requirements, support software and system architecture development, design, integrate, test, and verify complex systems in a fast-paced R&D environment, contributing independently while also collaborating closely with senior engineers and mentors.

• Analyze customer and operational needs and translate them into practical technical requirements, approaches, and engineering solutions.
• Support rapid prototyping, software development, system integration, troubleshooting, laboratory and field testing, demonstrations, and evaluation activities.
• Develop system concepts, architectures, interface definitions, functional/data flows, mockups, and other engineering products used to communicate and mature solutions.
• Coordinate with software developers and other engineering disciplines to refine system behavior, interfaces, and implementation approaches.
• Work with software, hardware, network, test, and integration engineers to develop, evaluate, and improve integrated system solutions.
• Perform technical assessments, trade studies, and gap analyses; document findings, test results, risks, and recommended courses of action for internal and Government customers.
• Reviewing test plans, procedures, and verification and validation activities.
• Independently manage assigned technical tasks and priorities while coordinating with Government customers, internal teams, vendors, and external organizations as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, technical, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 3–10 years of relevant Systems Engineering, systems integration, or related technical experience.
• Experience supporting the development, integration, and testing of hardware and software systems, including software-intensive or networked solutions.
• Experience working with a multidisciplinary teams providing systems engineering support to develop practical engineering solutions.
• Ability to analyze technical problems, troubleshoot integration issues, and support software/system verification and validation activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently with general guidance as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Active DoD Secret security clearance required to start.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
• 10% Travel.

Preferred:

• Experience with DoDAF architectures, UML/Object-Oriented Design, data flows, interface diagrams, or similar system modeling methods.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps environments and tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
• Experience supporting DoD/Army rapid prototyping, tactical networking, system integration, laboratory, or test environments.
