Overview

i3 is seeking an Associate R&D Electronics Technician to support prototype development, assembly, and testing within our research and development program. This position will work alongside engineers and other technical staff to build, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve electronic assemblies and prototype hardware. 

The role combines hands-on electronics work, electrical and mechanical assembly, and 3D printing. The successful candidate will be comfortable working across multiple projects, learning new tools and processes, and maintaining accurate records as designs evolve. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to product development while building technical skills within a collaborative engineering team. 

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, and modify electrical and electronic components, wiring harnesses, connectors, circuit boards, and prototype hardware using engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions. 
  • Perform soldering, wire preparation, crimping, connector installation, and basic circuit board assembly and rework under engineering direction. 
  • Assist engineers with equipment setup, inspections, electrical measurements, functional testing, and troubleshooting of components and assemblies. 
  • Identify and document defects, assembly issues, and test results; support repairs and modifications as directed. 
  • Operate and maintain 3D printers, prepare approved files for printing, and perform basic finishing, inspection, and assembly of printed parts. 
  • Record hardware configurations, component replacements, and assembly changes to keep build records accurate and current. 
  • Support other research and development activities as assigned. 

Qualifications

Education/Experience  

  • High school degree required. 
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience required.  
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical circuits and electronic components, gained through employment, technical education, military training, or relevant projects. 
  • Electronics Certifications highly preferred. 
  • Active Secret Clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a clearance required. 
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.   

  

Knowledge/Skills   

  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, assembly instructions, and component documentation. 
  • Familiarity with basic electrical test equipment, such as digital multimeters and bench power supplies. 
  • Ability to use common hand tools and perform detailed assembly work with accuracy. 
  • Practical troubleshooting skills and the ability to recognize when an issue requires engineering assistance. 
  • Ability to document work clearly, follow configuration instructions, and communicate problems or proposed improvements. 
  • Strong attention to detail and an organized approach to tools, materials, and records. 
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, adapt to changing project priorities, and work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Willingness to learn new equipment, software, fabrication methods, and technical processes. 
  • Familiarity with 3D printing software, basic CAD tools, or oscilloscopes preferred. 
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and client service skills; ability to clearly communicate in discussions and written documents, and to deliver feedback clearly and tactfully.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.   
  • Regular i3 hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
