Overview

i3 is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the EUAS Product Office within the Army’s PM Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS). This position supports requirements development and verification, system architecture, hardware and software integration, testing, fielding, and sustainment of UAS capabilities.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work with government personnel, contractors, developers, testers, and operational stakeholders to translate user needs into technical requirements, evaluate system solutions, and support delivery of interoperable capabilities. This role requires a thorough understanding of systems engineering processes, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, and the integration of complex systems.

We are seeking a self-starter who can identify technical issues and risks, develop practical recommendations, and turn general guidance into actionable tasks. Relevant experience may include systems engineering, UAS hardware and software integration, requirements management, verification and testing, or technical leadership within an Army aviation program.

  • Develop, review, refine, and maintain system and subsystem requirements, including traceability to operational needs and verification activities.
  • Support requirements allocation, interface definition, and verification planning across hardware and software components.
  • Support system architecture development and apply MBSE methodologies to assess requirements, interfaces, dependencies, and integration considerations.
  • Review and contribute to Department of War architecture models and products using the DoDAF framework, including Project, Capability, Operational, Systems and Services, Standards, and Data and Information viewpoints.
  • Work across organizations to identify future capability and interoperability needs and translate those needs into technical requirements and recommendations.
  • Support hardware and software integration across UAS platforms, ground control systems, mission systems, and associated equipment.
  • Coordinate with government teams, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and software developers to evaluate proposed changes, software releases, hardware updates, and interface compatibility.
  • Conduct or support trade studies and technical assessments to evaluate alternatives and inform architecture and system-level decisions.
  • Identify technical risks, assess potential impacts, develop mitigation strategies, and recommend courses of action throughout the product life cycle.
  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Change Control Boards (CCBs), technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and acquisition milestone reviews.
  • Support developmental and operational test planning, test readiness reviews, execution, discrepancy resolution, and evaluation of results against requirements.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity, test, hardware, software, and electrical engineering specialists to address technical concerns and support system readiness.
  • Assess system designs and interfaces for alignment with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) principles.
  • Provide technical inputs, dependencies, risks, and status updates to support the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
  • Prepare and present technical and programmatic briefings, written assessments, and recommendations to government leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, integration efficiency, test coverage, and delivery of capabilities to end users.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, information assurance, technology management, or a related field. Additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience, or a master’s degree in a related field and one (1) year of relevant professional experience.
  • Relevant experience in systems engineering, requirements development or verification, system architecture, hardware or software integration, developmental or operational testing, or closely related technical work.
  • A thorough understanding of requirements development and verification processes, system architecture, MBSE methodologies, and complex systems integration.
  • Experience supporting Army aviation acquisition processes through technical activities such as development, integration, testing, fielding, or sustainment.
  • Ability to identify technical issues and risks, evaluate alternatives, and develop mitigation strategies and actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to interpret operational needs and communicate technical requirements to government stakeholders, developers, and contractors.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and present technical briefings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • A current Department of War Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain that clearance.

Preferred Experience:

  • Direct support to EUAS, other PM UAS product offices, or Army aviation programs.
  • Experience spanning both hardware and software acquisition, development, integration, or testing.
  • Development and maintenance of DoDAF architecture products across multiple viewpoints.
  • Experience reviewing or developing SysML models using Cameo or similar MBSE tools.
  • UAS command and control, ground control stations, mission systems, or interoperability between platforms.
  • Software development, software integration, Agile development methodologies, or coordination of government-owned and OEM software updates.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) testing, automated testing, or integration laboratory activities.
  • Cybersecurity engineering or coordination of cybersecurity requirements within system development and integration.
  • Electrical engineering or hardware interface integration.
  • Missile launchers, dispensers, or associated mission equipment.
  • Middle Tier Acquisition (MTA) processes.
  • Application or assessment of MOSA principles.
  • JIRA, SPDS, or similar requirements, task, configuration, or issue management tools.
  • Microsoft Project or other scheduling tools used to support an IMS.

  • Strong initiative, attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently with accountability for accurate and complete results.
  • Ability to use general guidance to develop a technical approach, coordinate tasks, and communicate direction to a team.
  • Effective collaboration with government customers, industry partners, engineers, testers, and operational users.
  • Professional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate feedback clearly and tactfully.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing requirements, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced program office.
